Time for New York Yankees to play their ‘A’ game – MLB News Update
New York Yankees will be slightly disappointed with their 26-22 win-loss record so far this season. New York is the club with most resources in American League and the fans expect them to make it to the playoffs almost every season.
Manager Joe Girardi and General Manager Brian Cashman will be worried men these days. Yankees lost to Los Angeles Angels 8-9 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, California on Monday, May 28 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012
Major League Baseball regular season.
"A lot of guys had opportunities tonight, but any time you put eight (runs) on the board, you want to get that win," said Nick Swisher.
"Hopefully it's a breakout game," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "During the streak, we have not been swinging the bat well. We've been doing just enough to win, so hopefully this will get us to a different place."
Starting pitcher Phil Hughes gave up eleven hits and seven runs in his worst start of this season
"On a night when the offense is doing so well and swinging the bats, it's a tough one to swallow," Hughes said.
Of course, the Yankees have the ability to floor even the best sides in majors league but they have struggled to win games consistently since the start of the season. Considering the quality and depth in Yankees bullpen and hitting lineup, it will be a great
disappointment for the fans if they don’t make it to the post season.
Robinson Cano, Raul Ibanez, Nick Swisher and Derek Jeter are some of the most experienced hitters in the American League and there will be immense pressure on their shoulders this season. New York may struggle with their pitching assets, considering their
leading prospect Michael Pineda is out for the entire season due to a shoulder injury.
C.C. Sabathia is certainly capable of beating any team in the league but Hughes, Hiroki Kuroda and Ivan Nova will have to play a more effective supporting role. Only the time will tell if the Yankees have what it takes to reach the World Series finals.
