Time for Suzann Pettersen to toughen up
Another golfing year has ended with a flurry of excitement and drama. There were a number of events that grabbed the headlines, but the way Suzann Pettersen capped off this season is the most
spectacular.
First off, the Norwegian star managed to retain her position in the world rankings by exhibiting remarkable performance. Another factor that highlights Pettersen’s growing strength is winning
two LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournaments in the season.
The best moment for the current world number six was participating in LPGA KEB-HanaBank Championship 2012. The three-round tournament, which was held under the banner of LPGA Tour, saw Pettersen
in best shape as she outrivaled big names.
She ended her protracted winning drought at the HanaBank Championship, shooting an overall score of 205 as she defeated Scottish Catriona Matthew in playoff.
It was not enough as Pettersen said that she wanted to lift another title before the end of the 2012 season. She headed to Asia to participate in the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012.
Posting an overall score of 269 on the leaderboard, the Norwegian star beat South Korean Inbee Park by three strokes.
Pettersen has vowed to maintain her current position--but the biggest threat she may face in the 2013 season is playing against stars like Inbee Park and American Stacy Lewis of the United
States.
The last tournament of the 2012 season—CME Group Titleholders 2012—saw Pettersen perform well. She posted a total score of 284 to take the share of 18th position on the leaderboard.
Speaking to the media during the first round of CME Group Titleholders, Pettersen said that she is happy with her overall performance. She said it had become quite hard to deal with so many
defeats, but now winning two titles has breathed life into her game once again.
“I don't feel like I really have to go out and do anything. That makes the game just that much easier and you can kind of try and hit the different shots you see and play your instincts,”
Pettersen said.
“I just tried to birdie the last so I didn't have to be paired with her tomorrow. I mean, it's like you play with Cristie, we're competitive”.
