Time for Zulqarnain Haider to put a show – Opinion
In the wake of the recent spot-fixing trial in a criminal court in England against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 players Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, it is perhaps time for the former run-away wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider to make an
appearance as he will gain media hype more than ever before this time around.
Ask why? Well the simple reason is the fact that he is the only player to have ditched his team during an ongoing tour after receiving threats from an alleged bookie.
The 25-year-old has been out of public eye since he returned back to Pakistan and no one has heard anything from the young wicketkeeper who had promised to disclose the names of the players involved in “fixing”.
However, perhaps now the International Cricket Council (ICC) will approach him to speak up after a London court sentenced the spot-fixing trio to prison because of conspiring with bookie Mazhar Majeed to throw no-balls during the Lord’s Test match between
England and Pakistan after taking bribes.
History has been made because never has any player from the cricketing world been tried in a criminal court for taking bribes.
Pandora’s Box has been unlocked now and it seems that a thorough investigation is raring to be launched by the world’s cricket body to stamp out corruption from the sport once and for all.
This is the best time for Haider to make an entrance and spill the beans on the players involved in this crime.
Haider, who himself pledged to launch a crusade against fixing in the game of cricket has done little after returning from England where he tried to seek asylum after he received life threats from bookies who wanted him to join their ranks and make big money
by throwing games for them.
After his refusal, though things turned ugly and he had to run for his life to evade a possible attack by the bookie mafia.
Things are not as they were before, today spot-fixing has been busted and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 is looking at means to curb this menace, this is surely the perfect time for Haider to rise above and come in the open and reveal every detail that he may have on the spot-fixing
ring.
Haider himself had stated in the past that he would blow the whistle on the fixing gang, however, for some reason he has preferred to remain silent which is perhaps not the right thing to do.
Ironically the man who had made headlines suddenly has vanished and has not been active in Pakistani media.
The newly appointed PCB chairman Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Sharp-c59621 message that if he has some inside information on spot-fixing then this is the time to reveal it.
Haider had made many people unhappy after blaming many Pakistan players of actively taking part in fixing.
His revelations may not secure him a place in the national team; however, it will benefit the game of cricket which is more important than making a name in the national team.
Meanwhile, Pakistan are aiming to leave the spot-fixing fiasco behind and redeem themselves in international cricket.
