Hey, um I was wondering when is the correct time to start growing a playoff beard?? I'm asking cause someone I know is a sens fan(hahahahaha) and he had to shave like after the 1st week. He really didn't grow a beard so I'm just wondering because he shaved right after the last regular season. I decided that maybe it's best to have your last shave 2 weeks before the playoffs but not sure? Also, are you allowed to have hair cuts when ur team is in the playoffs?

  1. Usually in the dressing room a veteran or the captain unless you're playing for Pittsburgh will decide that It's time to start growing our playoff beards.

Fans don't do this it not only looks ridiculous but doesn't go over well at work or at school. You'd have to be a real Dork to explain to your boss that "I'm growing my playoff beard." When you don't even play hockey.

  2. Depends on the climate you live in, and the chances of your team to do something come playoff time.

I started growing mine a week before the end of the regular season for the Habs and living in Texas it was uncomfortable when the heat index (air temperature + humidity) got up to 115 .. by the time the Flyers eliminated us I had grown such a beard that a friend was calling me "Wolf Man" and it took me an hour to shave it off.

And in my opinion, no you can't get a hair cut, can't get a trim. Keep it growing as long as you can.

  3. If you are a 'Vancouver Canucks' fan..you might as well keep shaving. Usually the correct time is when the first playoff game starts.

  4. after the first playoff game.

  5. i had the fortune of growing my playoff beard for over 2 months this past year (go pens!).  you stop shaving the day of the last regular season and cut it all off the day after they're eliminated or win the cup.  haircuts are allowed but discouraged.  nothing goes better with a playoff beard than a playoff mullet!

minor caveat.... i shaved everything except my mustache the night the pens lost game 6 as a joke for work... then shaved it off the next day.

  6. I stop shaving after the regular season and let it grow until my team is done.

  7. only if you're sidney crosby should you start growing your playoff beard now.  i'm a big fan of the guy but jeez, that thing he was attempting to grow was just sad.  if he starts now, maybe by next april he'll have a nice full beard.  maybe.

  8. Hair cuts sure. As for when to start growing, there is no correct time. Some guys, usually younger, try to get a head start. A lot of the older ones just stop shaving and have a beard the next day. So really whenever you need to.

And really, it's not a tradition intended for the fans. It's a player thing.

  9. It all depends on your Hair growth. But generally at the last game of the season. Crosby started already for next year so those chin pubes come in a little better this year...lol!!!
