Time to bullseye at Lilydale Heights College
It might be the most idyllic activity that has been formulated by Lilydale Heights College.
In order to ensure that their students do not engage in any futile activity the institution has started to enroll its students in the game of darts.
The idea and effort has mainly been materialised by the six donated darts board by the Maroondah Social Darts Club.
In addition to this, the determination and effort invested by darts fanatic John Plucinski is also commendable.
The initiation of the darts club has been mainly to attract the attention of both male and female students in the club twice every week during lunchtime.
It is also important to mention here that the school, since the inception of this venture, has been able to generate a number of notable winners.
Some of the important ones include Brooke Taylor who was able to win a gold medal in the female junior doubles that took place in the year 2010.
In addition to this, she was also able to gain a silver medal in the single events that took place.
Alongside, players like Daniel Crowe and Jakob Barr were able to bag commendable victories after they were able to collect silver and gold medals for their institute in the singles and doubles events of darts.
However, despite such appreciating and remarkable achievements, Plucinski admits that it is nonetheless difficult to attract students to engage in the activity of playing darts, especially during their lunch time. "It's hard to get the message out," he said.
He further added that it is acknowledgeable that many families play this game at home.
It is important to understand the competitive nature of the game and how it can effectively be applied on an institutional level.
People believe that like other sports such as basketball and football that are played on regional and district levels, similar scale of appreciation and recognition must also be provided to the game of darts.
Plucinski believes that there is adequate talent for the game of darts that needs to be tapped and explored so that valuable and talented youngsters can be allowed with the opportunity of showcasing their skill on an appropriate platform.
