How about legalizing all but the worst ones, letting real pharm companies make them so you know what you get, and tax them? Then since youre spending a lot less chasing users and on lawyers to convict them, and jailors to keep them, you get tax revenues.

  1. h**l no! How about we just announce an open season on drug dealers? No bag limit!

  2. Lets give a green light to all those who teeter on the edge of addiction. Lets create an open door for those curious enough to step through. Lets give knives to all those children who like shiny things and see what happens. Let God sort them all out and take the burden of responsibility, and duty to protect from us.

  3. There are two major gripes I have against that idea:  (1) The rate of people driving while stoned will go way up -- and don't insult my intelligence by saying it doesn't happen; I have many friends and relatives who are in law enforcement who frequently arrest people for driving under the influence of drugs other than alcohol.  (2) The rate of workman's comp claims filed by people who are working while stoned will go way up -- and again, don't insult my intelligence by saying it doesn't happen; my father owns his own business and has had to fire several employees who were caught smoking dope while on lunch or during their breaks.

The current system is far from perfect, but let's face it:  Our vastly entitlement-minded population is only concerned about their rights and don't want to hear about their responsibilities.  If Americans as a whole were more mature, responsible individuals, I would say your idea is a good one.  Just from looking on Y!A I can tell that's not so by the number of people who are looking for ways to beat the drug test or fight traffic tickets.  They want to play but don't want to pay...
