Time to let off some steam... WHY!?

My apologies if I come across b***chy but you would too if you were in my shoes!

Ok, here's the situation ...

A friend of mine who works for a very prestigious hospital recommended me for a position at the hospital a few months ago. I sent him my resume. He forwarded it to the HR department. Now, almost a month ago, I received a call from the HR department to schedule an appoint for a few placement tests that were required for the positions that I was interested in. I took the tests almost 3 weeks ago and passed all 3 with flyinig colors. Honestly, I was shocked! I was then interviewed (quickly) by someone in the HR department. She asked me a few general Qs (i.e. why am I interested in working for their hospital? etc.) I was prepared because my friend told me what type of Qs they would ask. I answered them professionally and honestly. I was then given the person's business card. She said that I should hear back from someone there within in a few weeks and if I hadn't I should call them to follow up. Well, I called them back to follow up yesterday and left the lady a voice mail asking her to call me back. She calls me back today and pretty much tells me "If you haven't heard from someone yet, they're not interested".

Why would they do this? I am overly qualified for the job, I passed all the tests AND I know the interview went well?

I'm very pissed off and confused right now!

Can anyone help me?

  1. Maybe they aren't interested because you ARE overqualified.  Most companies don't want to hire someone who is overqualified for a job, since the are afraid (rightly so) that the person will be looking for another job and not stay long.

  2. it's natural to be disappointed when you think you are overly qualified for the job, but companies hire what they believe is the best fit applicant.  You obviously were not.  Get over it quickly.  Hopefully you put more then that application out there.  Get used to being rejected because it will probable happen again.  Stay positive.  Good luck.

  3. 1st off if u were OVERLY qualified that job it was not for u.. U might need something a lil more challenging! Everything happens for a reason.. A bigger and better job might be coming your way! so just chill.. have fun on ya time off!
