Question:

Time travel, romance book recommendation?

I prefer the book to include a feminist point of view. I love it when the main female character fights back in the past and gives everyone a piece of her mind, or maybe she makes an effort to express her opinions.

For example, "A Step in Time" by Anne Barbour.

It doesn't have to include that, but if you know of any, then that would be great. List as many books as you like, please :)

  1. You should try Karen Marie Moning. She is fantastic!! All her female leads are smart and savy and the story lines are brilliantly written.

I personally like "The Highlander Series" the best.

"BEYOND THE HIGHLAND MIST" is the first in the series.

    AN ALLURING LAIRD

He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart—until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistibly challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length—but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.

    A PRISONER IN TIME

She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite in her. Not even the barriers or time and space could keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about flowing the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side...

    then there is:

    To Tame a Highland Warrior

    The Highlander's Touch

    Kiss of the Highlander

    The Dark Highlander

    The Immortal Highlander

    Spell of the Highlander

    Into the Dreaming

    Good reading!!

  2. Traci Harding's The Ancient Future trilogy.

Basically, this chick goes back in time and kicks some *** (black belt). It's also a scifi/fantasy book. So not sure if this is what you are after.

Late one evening, en route to visit a relative, an accident leaves Tory – the attractive, twenty-something daughter of a prominent history professor – stranded near a ring of stones in Britain. Tory resolves to spend the night at the stone circle and seek help in the morning . . .But across the vortex of time and space, she is taken back to the Dark Age. There she meets Prince Maelgwn of Gwynedd and his band of warriors. Initially her 'strange' appearance frightens them and they believe she is the notorious witch fabled to frequent the site. But she overcomes their fear and soon the tales of her adventures, brave deeds and beauty spread across the land.

  3. Robert Asprin & Linda Evans "Time Scout" series pretty good, but is lacking a bit in the romance area.  I suggest reading the first book, "Time Scout"  to get the basics of the concept, but then you can pretty much pick and choose what stories interest you.  I would suggest "Ripping Time."   A Senator's daughter fleeing terrorist ends up in 1888 London and meeting Jack The Ripper.  It is followed by "The House That Jack Built."

  4. I presume that you have heard of The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. If you haven't I really recommend it.

  5. If you don't mind explicit s*x, I'd recommend Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It's the first in a series of books. Claire definitely speaks her mind and is a strong female.

Once Upon a Pirate by Nancy Block was pretty good. You have to disregard the cover, though.

Sandra Hill has written some time travels with rather feisty heroines like Frankly, My Dear.

Son of the Morning by Linda Howard was really good.

You may enjoy Lynn Kurland's The Very Thought of You.

Until Forever by Johanna Lindsey was excellent.

Constance O'Day-Flannery has written quite a few time travel stories like Here and Now.

Joan Overfield's Time's Tapestry was good and the heroine is an undercover cop who goes back in time to the 1800s. It's actually the second in a two-part series with The Door Ajar being the first. That one is good, but the heroine is a 19th century lady thrown into the 20th century - not exactly a forceful type.

Susan Sizemore wrote several good ones like Wings of the Storm.

I enjoyed Forever His by Shelly Thacker. The heroine is reasonably strong.

You may also enjoy Timeline by Michael Crichton.

You may want to check out this site http://www.timetravelromancewriters.com/ which has a database though which you can search.

I hope that helps. (At one time I read a LOT of time travels!)

  6. The absolute best ever is "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. It is a whole series. I read like 4 in a week and they are super thick (I don't think I slept) and was asking my husband to put on a kilt.

    A must read!
