my coach would like me to start doing more fly, but i keep hitting these time walls where i get stuck for about a whole season, it seems like no matter how hard i work or what i do i get stuck, what are some ways i could break through these time walls quickly or at least no get stuck as much?

  1. keep trying and if you are really fast at it, only the little technical things will make you alot faster

once you get older, time drops are less frequent

  2. As you get older you won't drop time every meet.  You'll have 'season best' times that you'll hover around.  Then when you peak for a championship meet (or to qualify for one) you'll drop time.  The best advice I can give you is talk to your coach.  Ask him your questions and truly listen to the answers.  Your coach is in the best position to offer you advice on your swimming.

  3. i would say push yourself harder. This is kind of sad but in one season i beat my fly time by 30 seconds to the point that i was swimming it in sectionals

  4. I would keep lifting wieghts to keep the back muscles working properly including the arms. Keep practicing or give yourself a break to re-energize.

  5. I know how you feel and what has really helped me is to try new things.  I know its hard but when you try different things and stop worrying so much about the times sometimes you can break through those time walls.  Good luck:)

  6. this happens to me too sometimes. what i try to focus on in the next few meets is technique and the little tihngs, not the time. at first it is horrible cause i go so much slower but by the end os the season (especcially on a taper) i go so much faster. generally for me i drop my time maybe a little if at all during season. but then at champoinship i drop a lot prob. cause of taper. (for example, my 200 back short course best time was  a 2:09.65  and i dropped that maybe .2 throughout the winter. then at sectionals i dropped to a 2:06.88 with no taper (it was the pressure :) ) and then at JO's i went a 2:06.25. )  so u really need to prepare urslef mentally too.
