The time difference is only one hour.

You can figure out the time difference between any two places in North America using the following list:

1:00 - Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone

2:00 - Alaska Time Zone

3:00 - Pacific Time Zone

4:00 - Mountain Time Zone

5:00 - Central Time Zone

6:00 - Eastern Time Zone

7:00 - Atlantic Time Zone

7:30 - Newfoundland Time Zone

So, if it is 6:00 in Eastern Time Zone, it is only 5:00 in Central Time Zone, which is a difference of only one hour.

A very few places do not observe Daylight Saving Time:  Hawaii, Arizona, Saskatchewan, Puerto Rico.  So, in the summer, they'll be an hour earlier than they're supposed to be.

Central standard time is one hour behind eastern standard time. As the earth spins, the sun "rises" later.

Atlantic time is in Canada.  Nova Scotia is one example.

Eastern is one hour earlier.

Central is one hour earlier than Eastern.

Mountain is one hour earlier than Central.

Pacific is one hour earlier than Mountain.

So central time is an hour earlier eastern time.  The sun rises in the eastern time zone before it rises in the central time zone so it is later in the eastern zone.

Some areas also do *not* recognize daylight savings time.  Arizona comes to mind ;)
