  1. we are on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) Also known as Universal Co-ordinated Time ... and in the summer we are on British Summer Time (BST) which is +1 hour on from GMT


  2. The Zero Degree line of LONGITUDE goes directly through the Observatory at Greenwich England, just outside of London.  It is where world time STARTS because it is Zero degrees.. so the time zone it is in is the REFERENCE TIME for the whole world
