Timea Babos gets rid of
Daria Gavrilova in quarterfinal – Slovak Open 2011
Third seeded Hungarian Timea Babos thrashed the Russian qualifier Daria Gavrilova in the quarterfinal of the Slovak Open.
The two players took up the challenge on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia and it took the third seed only fifty five minutes to get rid of the Russian qualifier in straight sets of 6-2,
6-2 on Friday the 18th of November 2011.
It was an easy victory for the third seeded Hungarian against her Russian qualifier as the pair met for the first time in their professional careers. She had remarkable hit of her first serves which was a walloping seventy nine
percent in the opening set. Along with an even better return that hit everything that came its way, she won a brilliant seventy percent of her total return points in the set.
Moreover, with an exceptional defence she was able to save three out of four breakpoints and even capitalized on a hundred percent of breakpoints won.
Although Gavrilova had taken the lead in the first two games with a hold of serve and then by capitalizing on a breakpoint, the deficit was eventually reduced and the score was equalized at two games each by the end of the fourth
game.
Babos took the lead for the first time in the set by capitalizing on a breakpoint in the fifth game and with a hold of serve in the sixth. In the following two games, she repeated the feat and in doing so; she bagged the opening
set to take the competitive edge.
Commencing the second set of the match was Gavrilova and this time both the players had managed to hold their respective serves to place themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1. This time Gavrilova was unable to break her adversary
and did not capitalized on a single break. Instead, she had a pathetic return that only enabled her to bag twenty eight percent of her total return points.
Babos had taken the lead in the second set by capitalizing on a breakpoint in the third game and then with a hold of serve she further extended her lead to 3-1 at the end of the fourth game. Subsequently, in the following two games
the players both bagged a set apiece.
As the third seeded Hungarian broke her adversary in the seventh game, she held her serve in the eighth to reserve a spot in the semi final where she will be facing fifth seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova.
