  1. A good book about the glaciers in North America was written by E.C. Pielou. I think it is called "After the Ice Age" and it discusses in detail how the last ice age worked.

  2. I dont know the exact timeline off the top of my head but I do know a few things.

1  We are still in an ice age.  Anytime glaciers are found on the earth, the earth is in an ice age.

2  The ice age that we are in peaked(was coldest) about 13000 years ago.  Since that time the earth has been slowly warming.  This warming isn't linear,  it is cyclical.  Sometimes the earth is warming and sometimes cooling but overall the trend has been a warming one for 13000 years.

3  The earth has been going from ice age to hot box conditions for millions of years, but the last million or so these changes have been more frequent.  I am not sure on the exact time of this increase on frequency started.

I am a geologist so I learned this stuff once
