Timely revenge taken by Wang Yihan against Wang Shixian – Badminton News
Wang Yihan, the most talented shuttler from China took a prompt revenge from her younger team-mate, Wang Shixian, by beating her in the final of 2011 Korea Open super series premier event in Seoul.
In the previous week, Yihan was beaten by Wang Shixian in the PROTON Malaysian Open super series. This time in Seoul, South Korea, it was the senior Chinese player Yihan who clinched the title and earned the rewarding prize money of US$ 90,000.
The 23-year-old Wang Yihan was just invincible throughout the whole event from the opening round to the title match. She won all matches in straight games except in the semi-final battle, where she had to go for a three games match against Korea’s Sung Ji
hyun. The Chinese defeated her younger team-mate and second seed, Wang Shixian, in the same style as Lin Dan did to the World Number One and defending champion, Lee Chong Wei. For both runner-ups, it was the third consecutive title of 2011 which was denied
to them by two wonderful Chinese shuttlers.
Shanghai born Yihan, did not take much time to beat Shixian, who had emerged victorious in their previous meeting last week in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In Seoul, South Korea, Wang Yihan never allowed her opponent to dominate the rallies. She kept herself
composed in the whole match and waited for the weaker returns by her compatriot, who was playing as well as she was in the PROTON Malaysia Open super series.
In the opening game of the final match of 2011 Korea Open super series premier tournament, both of the Chinese ladies were playing superbly and the score was going almost equal until the interval of the opening set.
After a one minute interval, the 23-year-old Chinese shuttler came into the court with other things in mind and started to show her experience and eventually won the first game by a good margin of 21-14. She was clearly driving the rallies to wherever she
liked and made Shixian run in all corners of the court. The control over rallies by Wang Yihan was just tremendous as she completely dominated the second-half of the opening set.
The second game was more thrilling as both players were advancing with the same pace until the ending points, where the experienced Yihan proved that she is ready this time to push her opponent on the back foot. She grabbed the second game after a tight
fight by a 21-18 margin.
The winning run of Wang Shixian was stopped by the elder Chinese as Shixian, has already won two major tournaments in this opening month of 2011 and it was her chance to make it a hat-trick this year, but she was just helpless against the inspiring Wang
Yihan.
Both runner-ups in the Men’s and Women’s singles category lost to the impressive Chinese. In the Women’s Singles, it was Wang Yihan who won the final in straight games and in the Men’s Singles, it was superb Lin Dan who proved his worth by beating the current
World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, from Malaysia.
