Timepiece, a bright prospect for the Qatar Bloodstock Dahlia Stakes (Fillies & Mares) at Newmarket
Newmarket will host the Group 3 Qatar Bloodstock Dahlia Stakes (Fillies & Mares) over a mile and a furlong on Sunday, 6th May. The £31,191 event has attracted seven runners among whom very few have been active at Newmarket.
Timepiece, Zamindar’s five-year-old bay mare out of mare, Clepsydra, has raced at Newmarket twice during the previous season. In 2010, she claimed one race and scored second once out of the three tries at the race course.
The five-year-old won the Group 1 Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes (British Champions’ Series) (Fillies & Mares) at Newmarket over a mile on 8th July 2011. Timepiece led the 13/8 favourite runner up of the race, Sahpresa, by 1 ¼ lengths and raced through the wire with Tom Queally onboard.
Settling third behind the winner was First City.
Her second attempt at Newmarket which marked the final race of 2011 for Timepiece, saw the tables turning. The Group 1 Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes (Fillies & Mares) on 24th September was won by the 13/8 favourite of the race, Sahpresa. Settling as the runner up on 24th September at Newmarket over a mile was Chachamaidee.
Timepiece was the last contestant to leave the field of eight.
Another entry to have raced and won at Newmarket is Khawlah, Cape Cross’ four-year-old bay filly out of mare, Villarrica. Her success however dates back to the 2010 season.
She was the 4/6 favourite winner of the E B F Pie Emporium Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Division I) on 17th September at Newmarket over a mile. Elas Diamond finished the closest to the winner and taking up the third slot was Matilda’s Waltz.
Her next try was in the Group 3 Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes on 1st October over seven furlongs. The race was won by Havant while Khawlah settled third after the 100/30 favourite runner up of the race, Look At Me.
The five-year-old Captivator can prove out to be threatening as she has bagged her seasonal debut and today will be racing through her second start of the season.
She won the Betfred Mobile Sports Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes (Listed Race) on 7th April at Kempton over a mile, shoving the 7/4 favourite of the race, Law Of The Range, by a short head’s distance.
