I need to know the proper timing curve, I know the base timing is 8 deg and the maximum advance is 35 deg but Im not sure when it should start advancing, as boats are always under load, more so out of the hole.

  1. Your  asking about dynamic timing.  I've watched this hundreds of times on OMC 5.0 and 5.7 engines.   I was using a Snap-on timing light that would change as the engine accelerated.  I was only concerned with the idle and max.  which you know.  Since I never had any distributors that didn't advance in this range, it wasn't a concern.  If I was having acceleration problems, it was always the carb. adjustment.  Can you even change the curve on one of these distributors?  The centrifugal advance? I know it picks up right away.

  2. To find the timing curve you will need a marine manual for OMC.You will also need the year of your engine.Good luck.
