Timing for Washington Nationals’ first two playoffs games unveiled - MLB Update
First two post-season games of Washington Nationals will be played on Sunday, October 7 and Monday, October 8 at 3:07 pm and 4:37 pm respectively. First two matches of their five game Division series will be on the road and the rest will be played at home.
As the St. Louis Cardinals have won the Wild Card game against the Atlanta Braves, the Nationals will be planning as to what strategy they should follow against them.
Before the name of the winner surfaced, the Nationals were uncertain about what kind of line-up they will come across in the first match and which pitcher from their rotation they should employ against the opposition.
Washington’s manager Davey Johnson will be considering various options with regard to announcing his line-up for Sunday. He will also be thinking about his rotation and the relievers that will throw during the penultimate moments under pressure.
Nationals will be wary of the fact that how in a matter of days the Cardinals can become a formidable opposition from being an underdog at the start.
They will be aware of how the Cardinals went on to win the World Series Championship after struggling in the beginning of the last season.
Johnson is known for contriving excellent plans and implementing them successfully.
He will certainly be looking to come up with something special on Sunday in order to outwit the Cardinals.
By winning the first two matches of the five-game series, Washington can bring the momentum on their side and from thereafter claiming victories will be easier.
As far as Washington’s offence is concerned, they boast the presence of Ryan Zimmerman, Bryce Harper and Michael Morse. These batters are capable of lifting the team to wins single-handedly.
If the Nationals end up victorious, more likely the bulk of the offensive contributions will be coming from them.
Apart from them, Nationals will rely on Jayson Werth for early hits and for creating bases-loaded situations during the innings.
Ever since Werth joined the line-up, he has helped team’s offence immensely.
As the game on Sunday begins, it will be interesting to see what plan the Nationals use as they step out on the field.
