Timing traffic lights so you don't have to put your feet down?

  1. The only way it could be done is on one-way streets in only one parallel direction in a city.  The whole system collapses when it's attempted to put into service timed lights in other directions.  Not to mention not all blocks are the same size, not all streets are in the cardinal directions, not all speed zones the same, etc.

    Nice thought, but not everyone has the engineering mindset to identify the quagmires.


  2. You can do it, I did it in Virginia on a highway. If you start from when the light turns green and you do the speed limit to the next light it will turn geen just as you get to it. I did this for over 25 miles. When I did it, it was very early in the morning and there was not much traffic at all. I don't think you could do it when there is a lot of traffic. Now I understand they use sensors that detect how many cars are waiting for a light to change. So much for the timing of the lights.
