I replaced a Timing belt on a 94 subaru legacy now it wont start. The timing mark are lined up correctly?

After I replaced the belt I tried to start it without any thing else on (the radiator ,belts, pulleysfans ect.) I wonder if that has something to do with it. It does have a crank angle sensor and no the har. bal. was not on when I tried To start the car

  1. Hard to say without any more info. But I would say that messing with the distributor will not change the valve timing. The main danger may be that the belt was out and when you turned it over on the starter the valves may have hit the pistons. Before you do a compression check try turning the engine by hand. This is something you MUST always do after messing with the cam belt.Always a good idea to have all the bits and pieces back on before turning the engine on the starter. Good Luck.

  2. refit balancer check timing again and start. if no start . check compression you may have bent the valves.

  3. maybe the timing is still out out the timing. maybe you have to r****d or advance the timing by turning the distributer a little bit. loosen the bolts on base of distributer and turn it until it cranks over. the belt may not be put in right

  4. You may need a strobe light to set it properly.
