Timo Glock: Virgin Racing Team made the right decision by splitting with Wirth Research – Formula 1
Virgin Racing Team’s Timo Glock has said that his team made the right decision by parting ways with Wirth Research.
Glock believes that since the team has now decided to end its partnership with former technical director Nick Wirth following the Monaco Grand Prix, they can now progress in the long run and perform even better.
Wirth Research used to handle the car’s designing and upgrades. The Virgin Racing Team driver believes that things are going to be easier for the team to handle in the near future as they are going to be the ones who control everything.
“It is the right move. We all want to move forward and the team wasn't happy with the performance of the car so they made the decision. A change like this is never the easiest, but to move on in the long-term it is very positive,” Glock told the media.
Virgin Racing Team are currently hoping to build their own design and development base according to the team consultant Pat Symonds. However, due to these sudden changes, the team might not be able to perform at its best in 2011. As a result, Timo believes
that the team is aiming for a much better performance for the next 2012 season.
“Next year is the main target. We know that we cannot find three seconds in a couple of months, then it becomes the changeover point for 2012. We have to try to get a bit out of this year and put all of our focus onto next year,” he said.
He added that the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season is going to be “fine” for the team as they have the ability to deal with tough times.
Other than that, Glock added that he is hoping for a new technical structure for the team which would allow them to improve and become even bigger.
