Timo Glock insists McLaren windtunnel work will help Marussia in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Marussia driver, Timo Glock, believes that the Marussia’s McLaren windtunnel work will help the team for a positive performance during the 2013 F1 season.
“I think the windtunnel work paid off since we went to McLaren, and that looks very positive for the future,” Glock said. “It was a difficult year in 2012 with a very difficult start; going to Australia with no testing. But I think since then we've improved
the car quite a lot. I didn't think that we would close the gap again because we were 1.5s off Caterham [on race pace] and then closed the gap very quickly over the second half of the season, which is great.”
Glock secured the twelfth place at the Singapore Grand Prix which is so far the best result for Marussia since they entered F1 in 2010. Glock said that they did all the right things in that race despite taking some risks. He added that the race in Korea
was also satisfactory while their qualifying pace during the United States GP was very good. He said that he was disappointed that they could not keep up with Caterham’s pace during the actual races since they were using KERS which makes a major difference.
Marussia entered the season ending Brazilian GP with eleventh place but their main rivals, Caterham, were able to reclaim that position by the end of the race leaving Marussia to finish the 2012 F1 season with a 12th place on the constructors’
grid.
Team boss, Graeme Lowdon, has also been positive about the team’s progress stating that they can definitely close the gap with midfield by next season. The team will also be staring to use the KERS technology from 2013 and Lowdon has said that even though
he is not a big fan of KERS but it certainly is going to surprise their rivals who will have to work really hard to maintain their position on the grid.
Both Marussia and Caterham entered F1 with the beginning of the 2010 F1 season and both teams still have to score a championship point. Marussia will be beginning the 2013 F1 season with new British driver, Max Chilton, partnering Glock.
