Timo Glock insists he is fully committed to Virgin
Timo Glock insisted that he is fully committed to his team, keeping aside all the problems the team has faced. Glock has not been able to score a single point this season. Plus, the driver has not been able to score a finish over 16th place up until now in the current season.
However, Glock is determined to help move team Virgin in the right direction. Even though he retired from half of the races this season, Timo remains focused about the future of the team and hopes to deliver better results in the coming races. While speaking on his official website, Timo said that he was aware that the team will struggle in their debut season when he joined them. The team has progressed well as compared to the beginning of the season and the German hopes they might turn things around in the near future.
“The team created problems for itself in the beginning of the season”, Timo said relating to the engine and fuel problems that could have been avoided. The team recently beat Lotus in qualifying and the race at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The team finally seems to get the fruits for their hard work.
Timo was impressed with the team for making new developments to their car since the last three to four races and trying newer experiments during every race. According to Timo, the team is working on the 2011 car. They believe they can make further developments to this year’s car in the upcoming races of the remaining season and that this car has a lot of potential. This constant improvement gives Timo faith that they are capable of challenging the established teams in the business in the years to come.
The 28-year-old scored 2 points in his debut season in Formula 1 that was in 2004 in team Jordan. He only got to race in four races but made quite an impact in this short span. He joined Paul Gentilozzi’s Rocketsports team in 2005 and raced in the Champ Car World Series in the United States. His best finish was a second place in Montreal at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Glock shifted his career to Europe in the GP 2 series that is levels bellow Formula 1. The driver raced in the midfield BCN Competition team and gained average results with the team. He moved to one of the front running iSports team and finished fourth in the driver standings. The driver came back to F1 racing in 2006 with the BMW Sauber as a test driver and signed with them as their second test driver for 2007. The German resigned with iSports and won a feature race along with four sprint races. After the BMW driver Robert Kubica’s injury in Canada, it was speculated that Timo would replace him but instead, the team chose to go with their leading test driver Sebastian Vettel. This helped him get a full-time racing seat with Torro Rosso later that season, starting the Hungarian Grand Prix and later moving to BMW as their main test driver and reserve driver.
He joined Toyota in 2008 and stayed with the team until the end of 2009. This seems to be the high point of his Formula 1 career as the team gave him 3 podium positions and he finished in 10th place in both the seasons. He has not been able to score a single point since he joined Virgin this year and is in the tail end of the drivers standing at the moment.
Glock commented that he is not frustrated since the team is improving by the day but they need to take bigger strides for the betterment of the team. Timo eagerly denied any media speculation of him leaving the team after this season. He wants to stay with team Virgin at least until the end of the 2011 season and is not seeking a driver elsewhere. Glock has signed a long-term contract with the team and is fully committed because he believes Virgin will achieve their objectives this season.
