Timo Glock wants to stay at Virgin Racing
Timo Glock, who is driving with Virgin team this season, claimed to be satisfied with his team. He expressed his plan to stay committed to the team even though he has had a difficult season with the newcomers. Glock, while driving with Toyota last year was able to make three podium appearances, while his best finish so far this season had been nothing better than sixteenth at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The year had been a poor one right from the start as he retired in six of the races at the start of the season and yet he says that he would not mind driving with Virgin for another season. Glock explained that he had no illusions at the time he decided to come to a new team. He already knew that the first year for a new constructor is hardly anything more than a series of testing experiences.
“Our debut season at Virgin Racing has been a big challenge but I always knew this would be the case when I joined the team”, the experienced German said while he was talking to his official website. “The start of the year in particular was quite difficult but since then we have really started to turn things around and since the middle of the season we have made very good progress with the development of the car”.
Glock, had been around in Formula One world for the past three years and had been able to bag a total of fifty-three points so far, along with three podium finishes. He admitted that the start of season frustrated and disappointed him more than he had expected especially when things were made harder for the team by itself. Especially the point when VR-01’s chassis was altered owing to the issues with the fuel tank’s size at some of the Grand Prixs.
However, now as the season moves towards its end, Glock believes the team is finally beginning to see the fruits of all its hard work. The team had been able to out-perform the other newcomer team Lotus in Hungary just before the summer, in the qualifying session as well as during the final race day.
“For the last three or four races we have brought new developments to the car at every race, which have translated immediately from the simulator to the track and that has been very encouraging to see”, said the racer as he returned from Hungary. “Our digital approach means that we can also continue with the development of this year’s car right up until the end of the season, as well as working on next year’s car”.
Glock announced high hopes from the team because of the gradual but constant improvement that it has shown over the years. He admits the fact that though they might not be able to show magic on the track this season, he has faith that the team is ultimately capable of challenging any of the established teams in the next few years.
“If development stopped or we didn’t keep moving forward then like any driver I would become frustrated, but so far this is not the case”, he proclaimed.
He also disclosed the fact that the team has some bigger plans of improvement for the future races which he thinks would provide him new racing experience with Virgin all together.
Keeping in view all these future plans, Glock has eagerly negated all the media speculations about seeking a new team for next season.
He concluded the interview by saying, “I have a long-term contract with Virgin Racing and I’m fully committed to the team moving forward. We have what it takes to fight to continue to achieve our objectives for this season and in the future”.
