Timoneer favourite for Liberty Mutual Insurance Conditions Stakes at Newmarket
Timoneer was a close winner on his debut at Newmarket last month. Mahmood Al Zarooni’s 2-year-old colt is full of confidence after starting his journey on a winning note, and holds an obvious chance of coming up with a wonderful act in Liberty Mutual Insurance
Conditions Stakes, being held at Newmarket on Thursday, August 16th.
Under Mickael Barzalona, Timoneer could not get off to a good start in the NSPCC Ballygallon Stud Ireland EBF Maiden Stakes. Despite an early mess, he did not lose confidence, and raced keenly in the middle hours. The 11-4 chance ran well to take lead inside
the final furlong, and grabbed the top rank by a neck’s distance.
He is full of spirit after a classy act, but needs to perform out of his skin, as he is facing three high profile competitors today. According to the preset plan, the 7f meeting will be kicked off at 15:45 GMT. A cash prize of £7,763 is reserved for the
ultimate champion.
Al Waab is also coming off an outstanding victory. Bet At bluesquare.com Maiden Stakes saw Sir Henry Cecil’s trainee notching up the top position with ease. He was slowly into stride, and an excellent work in the final stages helped him upset the 2-1 favourite,
Glory City, by half a length.
Ask Dad opened his account at the end of last month. Richard Hannon’s charge pressed the leader early on, and led a couple of furlongs before the wire. The 8-13 favourite retained his advantage until the end, bagging the top prize by a neck’s distance.
Luhaif is the most experienced fellow in this race. Owned by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, the 2-year-old registered his maiden success at the end of June. He was an unlucky loser in the Group 2 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes at Goodwood earlier
this month. Since he has plenty of experience under his belt, he will be the biggest threat to Timoneer.
According to our calculations, there will be a close contest between Luhaif and Timoneer. The latter is in winning mood, and therefore gets the vote. We wish the best of luck to all the runners.
