Timothy Bradley – Devon Alexander venue still undecided
Reports confirming a venue for the upcoming January 29 contest between Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander have been met with chagrin and resistance.
Up until the weekend, FanHouse and other sources indicated that the fight was set at the Chafetz Arena on the St. Louis University campus in Alexander’s hometown of St. Louis, out of which he is likewise promoted by Don King.
However, Bradley’s promoter, Gary Shaw, reportedly shut down the idea and said that remaining options include Atlanta, Georgia, and Detroit, Michigan.
Alexander’s manager and trainer Kevin Cunningham responded to the popular boxing website
FanHouse, “Devon and myself are growing increasingly frustrated over this. This coming weekend, we'll be eight weeks out from the date of one of the biggest fights in the sport of boxing, and we have no site or venue. This is the biggest fight at this
point in Devon's career, and there are serious ramifications for the winner of this fight.
“The fact that come this Saturday, 27 November, we had planned on being able to board an airplane, and that, as of today, there is no site, and this fight has not officially been announced, that's affecting how we move forward in our preparation.”
Alexander, the WBC junior welterweight titlist, will be fighting for Bradley WBO crown in a bout that looks to establish one of the top junior welterweights in the world. It is expected that a winner will take on whomever wins between Amir Khan and Marcos
Maidana in their upcoming clash.
In response to Cunningham’s concerns, Shaw indicated that he should stop pretending to be a promoter and concern himself with Alexander in the gym. “All that he’s doing is hurting the fighter,” Shaw said.
Cunningham upped that ante with, “The Bradley camp is balking at coming to St. Louis, but how can a fighter like Tim Bradley, who can't draw flies to s**t, have the power to dictate where this fight is going?”
“The bottom line is that if Tim Bradley is that f**king scared of Devon Alexander, then why doesn't he just man up and say so, and we can move on to something else.”
