Timothy Bradley: Marquez did not want to win against Pacquiao – Boxing News
Unbeaten American fighter Timothy Bradley believes Juan Manuel Marquez made lots of mistakes against Pacquiao last year. According to Bradley, it did not seem like Marquez wanted to win and he just wanted to sustain Pacquiao’s power.
In his recent interview, Bradley, who will be challenging Manny Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title, said, “Marquez stepped back and counter-punched a bit, but he didn’t get the decision because it didn’t seem like he wanted to win. If you want to win
the championship, you’ve got to take it to the champion. If Marquez would have stepped up, grabbed his balls and stepped up to Pacquiao and made a fight out of it, and win the last couple of rounds, he probably would have won. But he didn’t do that. He laid
back and let Pacquiao control the tempo and control the action, and Pacquiao ended up winning those rounds. So, it’s just a mixture of things. One thing that I do know, is that I know how to win,” Bradley said. “I know when I’m down, and I know how to pick
it up.”
Bradley further added that that he knows well how to make adjustments in the ring and he will not give up if his strategy does not work.
Bradley has fought 28 fights and has remained undefeated to date. He is currently considered an emerging pugilist with the skills to be the best. However, some analysts believe that it is too early for Bradley to challenge a fighter like Pacquiao, who currently
is considered among the best pound for pound fighters in the world.
Yesterday, Bradley held a media workout and the unbeaten American revealed that his training is going good and that he wants to spar for 160 more rounds before he meets Pacquiao in the ring. This will be Bradley’s first ever mega-bout against a superstar
of such high calibre. Therefore, it is important for him to leave an impression that will last for long.
Both the fighters will face each other on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the WBO welterweight title currently held by Pacquiao.
