Timothy Bradley believes he will be Pacquiao’s next opponent – Boxing News
WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley believes he is the only possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao. Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao currently has Juan Manuel Marquez Miguel Cotto and Timothy Bradley as names of fighters he needs to select from. Bradley,
who defeated Pacquiao on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, insists he is the most sensible choice for the Filipino to make.
“This guy can choose anyone he wants to fight, but I don’t know how he can pick anyone other than me,” said Bradley in an interview to The Times yesterday.
“I’m the champion. If he wants his belt back, he has to come through me to get it. He relinquished it to me. Regardless of what everyone might think of how I beat him – the controversy – I’ve got a win on my resume over Manny Pacquiao, and it’s going in
the history books that way.”
“If he doesn’t want to fight me, that’s on him.”
Pacquiao met up with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum last week to discuss his opponent for either November 10 or December 1. However, the meeting ended with no decision, and Pacquiao’s next opponent is still a mystery.
Bradley is promoted by Bob Arum too. According to Bradley, he has been told by Arum that Pacquiao’s decision might come in next week. Bradley is eager to fight Pacquiao for a title rematch, in order to defeat the Filipino in a more decisive manner.
Their last encounter ended with a controversial split decision, which immediately attracted public hatred for Bradley. Fellow fighters, friends, analysts and foes, all called the decision a disaster for boxing, believing Pacquiao won the fight.
Just as the decision was announced, the crowd booed Bradley, and so the unbeaten American vowed to face Pacquiao again to prove his mettle.
It should be noted here that Pacquiao is inclined towards a rematch against Bradley. However, Bob Arum is the one who wants Pacquiao to either go for Marquez or Cotto, considering the fact that both these fighters have more fan following than Bradley and
so they can sell the fight more.
