Timothy Bradley stripped off the WBC title for failing to defend it – Boxing news
The World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organisation World Light Welterweight Champion Timothy Bradley has been stripped off the WBC light welterweight belt, as he has not defended the title since winning it from Devon Alexander in January 2011.
This is the second time the World Boxing Council has stripped off Bradley, who is currently rated by the Ring Magazine as the number six pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
Bradley’s manager Cameron Dunkin received the letter on Thursday but still the 27-year-old Desert Storm, Bradley, who has won 27 of his 28 fights including 11 by the way of a knockout, says he does not want to comment on anything, as has not seen the letter
himself as of yet.
Meanwhile Bradley’s trainer, Joel Diaz, is not happy at all with the situation.
While speaking on his inclusion, Diaz said, “That's not right. Boxing is no longer a sport. It's a business. It's always been a business, but in the past years, boxing was a sport and everything was done right. Every fighter who fought for the championship,
you had to step up.”
The new unified International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association World Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan wanted a title shot against Bradley but the American turned his offer down. Khan then requested the boxing organisations to strip off
Bradley’s title as he was not giving other fighters a chance.
Diaz admitted it was a bad decision from his fighter but on the same note, he remarked stripping off of the titles was never the solution.
Diaz stated, “Tim Bradley may have made a poor decision to not fight Khan, but in no way should he be stripped by the horrible WBC banditos.”
In the end, Diaz added it is not only bad for Bradley but it is bad for any other fighter out there.
He said, “Where's the prestige? There's no more prestige anymore. People who know boxing knows it's not right. It's not fair just for Tim, but for any champion out there.”
