Timothy Bradley thinks Lucas Matthysse was robbed
The chorus of those who believe junior welterweight contender Lucas Matthysse (27-1, 25 KOs) was robbed in a close fight last weekend with Zab Judah (40-6, 27 KOs) continues to get louder.
WBO junior welterweight king Timothy Bradley is the latest to weigh in on the affair, expressing his opinion to boxingscene.com. In his estimation the bout clearly should have gone to Matthysse, who suffered
his first professional defeat in 28 bouts.
Official scores for the bout were 114-113 Matthysse, 114-113 Judah, and 114-113 Judah. Matthysse knocked Judah down with a right in the tenth, and seemed to dominate the remainder of the bout.
"I felt Matthysse got robbed,” Bradley said. “Zab didn't do anything all night. He was hitting him with the jab, but as far as the most effective punches - Matthysse was killing him to the body. You
don't get no credit for body punching. He was hitting him to the chest all night long. He hit him to the chest like 60-something times and he didn't get no credit for it. He just kept going to the body and going to the body, and then all of a sudden Zab's
legs were gone. He couldn't move.”
Bradley’s comments mirrored those made days ago by Oscar De la Hoya, who also felt Matthysse deserved a win for his efforts. “The Golden Boy” has a particular hand in the career of Matthysse as he promotes
the fighter.
Another factor to consider is that the bout was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The arena is regularly filled by Main Event promoter Kathy Duva, who bases most of her fights out of
the New Jersey area and has won over a loyal crowd. Judah is promoted by Duva.
Bradley is preparing for his own January 29 bout with Devon Alexander to determine the top rated junior welterweight in the world.
