Timothy Bradley vacates WBO junior welterweight title, keeps welterweight belt – Boxing News
The current WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley has vacated his WBO junior welterweight title. Since Bradley held both the titles, he had to vacate one. The unbeaten American chose to vacate the junior welterweight title, as he believes the welterweight
division is more action packed.
According to Cameron Dunkin, Bradley’s manager, “Tim told me, ‘I'm going to hold onto the 147-pound belt.’ He said, ‘That's the title I just won and that's where the good names are -- Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather. That's where I'm going to keep my belt.’”
Dunkin added, “Timmy wants to keep the 147 belt because that's where the action is. Even though he is the best 140-pounder in the world, he can't keep both belts, so he made the decision to stay at 147.”
Although Bradley won the title against Pacquiao, he was unable to earn the respect every champion deserves. His split decision win against Pacquiao became controversial, and just in a matter of weeks, a lot has happened. The WBO has already ruled out that
Pacquiao had won the match through a 5-judge panel. However, the organisation iterated that it does not have the authority to reverse the fight’s decision. Therefore, the WBO has ordered a rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley.
On the other hand, promoter for both the fighters Bob Arum has filed an official request with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to investigate as to what cause the judges to give the fight to Bradley, when most people saw Pacquiao winning. The Nevada
State Athletic Commission has yet to review the details of the request to act upon it.
Bradley is currently eyeing a rematch against Pacquiao. However, the Filipino star is more eager towards taking on his American counterpart Floyd Mayweather jr. In his recent meeting with Bob Arum, Pacquiao discussed the possibilities of a fight against
Mayweather. However, his demand was let down by Arum with the reason that Mayweather will not be willing to do the fight right after he completes his jail sentence.
Bradley did not vacate the WBO welterweight title because he wants to go head to head with Pacquiao again to win in a more decisive manner.
