Timothy Duggan wins the US Professional Road Championships
Timothy Duggan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale wins the 185 kilometre USA Cycling Professional Road Race event.
He crossed the finish line in a quickest time of 4 hours, 17 minutes and 40 seconds and occupied the top podium position.
IK Frank Pipp of Team Bissell Pro Cycling Team finished 26 seconds behind at the second position while Kiel Reijnen of Team Type 1-Sanofi occupied the third position.
Kenneth Hanson of Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies, James Stemper of Team Kenda 5-Hour Energy and Tyler Wren of Team Jamis-Sutter Home occupied the fourth, the fifth and the sixth positions in the respective order.
Duggan was delighted after the stage victory and thanked his team-mates for their support throughout the race.
He cited, "This was one of the most satisfying days of my career, we had to do everything right and take every opportunity me had”.
“There's only so much we could do with two guys”.
"When the moment was right, go all out and there was no in between, you can't look back. And that's what I did".
Tejay Van Garderen of Team BMC finished 54 seconds behind and achieved the 13th position.
"We kind of caused a field split. I was just trying to bring the bunch back together because a dangerous group had gone away," van Garderen noted.
"In the town some were refusing to work, there was no harmony. Duggan never really attacked. He just took advantage of that strange situation,” he concluded.
