Timothy Johnson wins the Trek USGP of Cyclocross Deschutes Brewery Cup 2012- C2
Timothy Johnson turned the tables around during the Trek USGP of Cyclocross Deschutes Brewery Cup this Sunday.
He fell 1 second short during the Saturday race and had to settle for the second podium position after teammate Ryan Trebon secured the top position finishing just 1 second behind Trebon.
Johnson took his revenge as he sailed across the finish-line in a competitive time of 1 hour,1 minute and 9 seconds, leaving Ryan Trebon 15 seconds behind at the second position.
"I had gone around Ryan right at the top, and he washed out a little bit in the gravel, so I just hit the gas as hard as I could," Johnson said.
He added, "After 20 minutes of hard riding, everybody kind of likes to take a breath, but that's when I got away, so I just kind of kept the hammer down. It's tough to start to go fast again right away ".
Johnson was leading the peloton with a margin of five seconds over seven chasers during the fourth lap who were all in contention for the top podium position.
However, the American managed to keep his momentum going, throughout the ninth lap and never made a single mistake throughout the nine-lap race.
Adam Craig of Team Giant Rabobank team finished further four seconds behind Trebon and achieved the third position.
“I'm not strong enough to leave the group and go to Tim, even if he's only eight seconds away and you know that's the move and you know you have to be there," Craig added.
Christopher Jones of Team Rapha-FOCUS, Yannick Eckmann of Team California Giant/Specialized and Ben Berden of Team Raleigh Clement occupied the fourth, fifth and the sixth positions in the respective order.
James Driscoll, Todd Wells, Cody Kaiser, Geoff Kabush, Justin Lindine and Chris Sheppard achieved the next five positions respectively.
Jeremy Powers continuous his overall lead at the USGP Series, Elite Men Overall Standings with his 284 points run while Ryan Trebon has jumped up to the second position with a deficit of 11 points.
Timothy Johnson (242 points), Ben Berden (215 points) and Christopher Jones (174 points) secured the third, fourth and the fifth positions.
