Timothy Phillips grabs Men’s 50m butterfly gold title: Day two – 2011 World University Games
Timothy Phillips revealed his phenomenal swimming efforts in the final of Men’s 50m butterfly swim, by earning the gold medal of the event on the second day of the 2011 World University Games on Monday, August 15, in Shenzhen, China.
Phillips of USA obtained the title of the single-lap butterfly swim, by reporting on the finishing wall in a fastest time of 23.51 seconds. His time was just 1.08 seconds slower than the world record of 22.43 seconds, made by Spanish swimmer, Rafael Munoz
Perez in Malaga, during 2009. He was also 0.42 seconds above the Game Record of 23.09 seconds, set by Jason Dunford of Kenya, who owned the title of the same event in Belgrade, on July 5, 2009.
The gold medallist edged out his closest competitor, Paolo Facchinelli of Italy, with a lead of only 0.34 seconds, as Facchinelli submitted a second fastest time of 23.85 seconds for the silver medal. He was trailed by Masayuki Kishida of Japan, who emerged
as the third position holder of the event, by posting a time of 23.93 seconds.
In the meantime, Philip Marvin Heintz of Germany acquired fourth fastest spot of the event, as he was just 0.29 seconds slower than Kishida and completed his swim in a time of 24.22 seconds. Heintz was trailed by Ivan Udalov of Russia, who claimed fifth
best spot of the discipline, as he was only 0.06 seconds behind his former swimmer and produced a time of 24.28 seconds.
Meanwhile, Marcos Macedo of Brazil transpired as the sixth best swimmer of the swim, as he ended his race in a time of 24.36 seconds. New Zealand’s Nielsen Varoy was the seventh fastest finisher of the event, as he clocked a time of 24.37 seconds. Alon Mandel
of Israel stayed 0.04 seconds behind Varoy and ended up as eighth finisher, with a timing of 24.41 seconds.
The session ended with the commendable efforts of all participants, whereas, the frontrunners of the event collected their medals and accolades after the session.
