Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery, Kelly Miller, Tan White: Top performers from 16th June WNBA games
On Thursday night, Connecticut Sun earned their first road win of the season with a hard-fought 79-71 victory over the Washington Mystics at Verizon Center. With this victory, the Sun are now jointly heading the Eastern Conference
with the Indiana Fever.
Connecticut came out hard in the first quarter and outplayed the Mystics 23-11. They then fended off a vociferous late rally from Mystics deep into the final quarter to walk away with their third victory of the season. Here is
a detailed insight into the exceptional performances on the night:
Tina Charles
Tina Charles had a stupendous game for Connecticut. The towering centre recorded a double-double with a game high 26 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. In addition to her 26-point spurt, the Charles scored five consecutive points
in the last three minutes of the game to spark the Mystics to the win.
Charles finished the night with an impressive 11-for-17 shooting from the field and an immaculate 4-for-4 from free throw line in 35 minutes of action. Charles, who is averaging 17.8 points and seven rebounds per game in this season,
missed an excellent opportunity to knot her career high points by just a point.
Sun coach Mike Thibault acknowledged the great contribution and said, "She looked really fresh when everybody else was tired late in the game," "I thought she was still playing at a very high level energy-wise."
Renee Montgomery
Renee Montgomery added 23 points, five assists, and two rebounds, shooting 11-for-12 from free throw line. The 5-foot-7 guard also pinned two three-pointers and scored 13 of her 23 points in the first half of the game.

3’s hit by the Sun.
