July 28 vs. Indiana Fever
Tina Charles recoded her tenth double-double of the regular season in Connecticut Sun’s 69-58 loss to Indiana Fever on July 28 at Mohegan Sun Arena. The 22-year-old led Connecticut with 13 points and 10 rebounds. She went 5 for
16 from the field in Sun’s first loss at home.
July 31 vs. Atlanta Dream
On July 31, Charles added 10 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to help the Sun overcome a 10-point deficit in the second half for a 99-92 victory over the Eastern Conference Defending Champion Atlanta Dream. The 6 ft 4
in centre player also dished out five assists and ended on 5 for 14 shooting from the floor.
August 3 vs. Los Angeles Sparks
The rookie centre recorded her fourth straight double-double and 12th of the season in a 79-70 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on August 3 at Staples Center. Charles topped all the scorers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. She
scored 13 of her points in the second half of the game as Connecticut overcame their five-point halftime deficit for their second consecutive victory.
“My team was down, I just want to win. I am really competitive,” Charles said of her crucial second-half performance. “I want to let my team know that I am there for them and I just want their respect.”
Tied 56-56 at the end of third quarter, the No.1 overall pick in the 2010 WNBA draft hit a free throw and later added a pair of jumpers during the run, resulting in a 68-56 advantage early in the last quarter. Charles shot 8 for
12 from the field and 4 for 6 from free throw line.
August 5 vs. Seattle Storm
Charles played one of her best games in Connecticut’s uniform against Seattle Storm. The centre contributed 18 points on 8 for 17 shooting from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds in more than 37 minutes of action. Connecticut lost
the game at the buzzer, 81-79, but Charles’ performance was impressive.
Charles, in her second year with the Sun, tallied six of her points during a 16-2 run in the third period as Connecticut rallied from 13-point deficit to take their first lead of the game at 56-55 on Asjha Jones' jumper.
The player hit a terrific jumper on a put back with 3.1 seconds to go in the final buzzer to put the Sun ahead by 79-78 before Seattle’s Sue Bird hit a three pointer to seal the victory.
