Tina Charles dominates as Connecticut Sun beat Los Angeles Sparks 79-70 – WNBA Recap
On Wednesday night at the Staples Center, Tina Charles racked up a game-high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Connecticut Sun beat Los Angeles Sparks 79-70 for their second consecutive victory.
Charles shot 8 for 12 from the field and 4 for 6 from free throw line in more than 36 minutes of action. Renee Montgomery also tallied 16 points and dished out six assists. She hit 5 for 10 from the floor, including 4 for 6 from
three-point range. Forward Asjha Jones punctuated 12 points on a 6 for 11 shooting from the field and pulled down three rebounds in the victory.
DeLisha Milton led the Sparks with 14 points, shooting 6 for 9 from the field, and five rebounds. Tina Thompson contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Ebony Hoffman scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds
for the Sparks, who have lost six of their previous seven games and second in a row.
The Sun shot 44.6 percent (29 for 65) from the field and 69.6 percent (16 for 23) from the free throw line while Los Angeles shot just 40.8 percent (29 for 71) from the floor and 71.4 percent ( 5 for 7) from the line. Connecticut
committed 11 turnovers as compared to 16 by the Sparks.
The score was tied at 14-14 with 01:58 to go in the first quarter, before Los Angeles struck with four straight points, taking an 18-14 lead into the second. In the second quarter, Connecticut played comparatively better than opening
period, but the Sparks still managed t maintain a 40-35 advantage at halftime.
Trailing by five points at the end of first half, the Sun limited the Sparks to 16 points in the third quarter and tied the game at 56, heading into the fourth.
Connecticut opened the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run, capped by Charles five-point spurt, to take a 68-56 lead. They then maintained their hold until the final buzzer. It was seventh victory for Sun in their previous eight games.
