Tina Charles notches up a double-double to carry Connecticut Sun past Chicago Sky 83-72 – WNBA Recap
On Tuesday night, the Allstate Arena was witness to another impressive double-double from Tina Charles.
Charles erupted with 24 points and 14 rebounds as she helped Connecticut Sun defeat Chicago Sky 83-72 and opened up their four-game away trip with a win. She was provided an equal hand by Kara Lawson, who had
18 points, while Renee Montgomery chipped in with 15 points in the game.
On the other hand, despite having 5 players scoring in double figures, the efforts from the Chicago team were not enough to stop them from losing their 10thgame in 11 outings. Their efforts were lead
by Courtney Vandersloot who chipped in with 17 points. Swin Cash recorded 15 points while Sonja Petrovic, Epiphanny Prince and Carolyn Swords contributed with 10 points each.
Chicago shot the ball 37.1 % from the field while Connecticut fared much better as they converted 42.9% of their opportunities. One more thing that worked in favour of the Sun was their three point conversion
as they shot the ball 50% from the long range. They did have their fair share of troubles as they turned the ball over at critical junctures of the game, which could have cost them their advantage, but luckily for them Chicago were unable to make the most
of their chances.
The game started at a pedestrian pace and it took more than a minute for the scoring to get started. The first frame was highly competitive and by the end of it Sun has a slender 21-20 lead. The second quarter
saw Connecticut finally get going as they opened up a double figure advantage with 4 minutes remaining in the first half, courtesy of a 10-2 run.
They retained their advantage for the rest of the half and took a 44-33 lead into the break. A 6-2 run to open up the third quarter saw Sun’s further extend their advantage and they never took their foot of the
pedal.
Connecticut closed out the stanza with a 5-1 run which helped them prolong their advantage to 14 points.
Chicago tried their best to make this one into a contest in the final quarter but every time they tried to attack, Connecticut counterpunched.
From the 6:05 mark of the final quarter till 4:47, Connecticut put together 9-0 run which effectively put an end to Sky’s resistance and Sun went on to take this one comfortably with a lead of 11 points.
