Tina Charles racks up a double-double as Connecticut Sun better San Antonio Silver Stars 84-73 – WNBA Recap
On Thursday night at the AT&T Center, Tina Charles erupted with 20 points and 10 rebounds as she carried Connecticut Sun to an 84-73 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars. Charles was provided equal support by Kara Lawson who
added 14 points while Renee Montgomery and Kelsey Griffin contributed 13 each.
Danielle Adams led the Silver Stars effort with 22 points and 8 rebounds while Sophia Young played well for her 20 points and 10 boards. Becky Hammon was unable to influence the game much. She had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists
to go with 6 turnovers.
The loss for San Antonio ended their nine game winning streak at home and it was done by the team with the best away record in the WNBA.
Both sides played a very close first quarter, which closed at 20 apiece. Connecticut came out strong in the second quarter as they started off with an 18-4 run, including 16 straight points. After allowing the 4 early points to
the Silver Stars, they held them scoreless for a time span 4:17. San Antonio put an end to that run courtesy of jumper from Sophia Young, but another 5-0 burst to close out the first half saw Connecticut head into the interval with a 12 point lead.
Charles had an extremely good first half with 14 points. San Antonio tried to turn the game around in the second half as they started out with a 7-2 run and the game got really interesting when Robinson connected on a pull up jumper
at the 4:28 mark to make it a 6 point game.
However, Connecticut stabilized their attack after that and matched up the Silver Stars for the remaining time in the period. They were leading 64-57 before the start of the fourth. A 7-0 run to start the final period saw Connecticut
further prolong their advantage and despite Adam’s best of efforts from the long range, San Antonio were unable to make their way back into the game.
San Antonio were the better team from the floor, but Connecticut attempted more shots to make up for their cold shooting and also forced 16 turnovers, half of what they committed.
