Tina Charles scores career high as Connecticut Sun beat Chicago Sky 83-68 – WNBA Recap: Part 1
When Connecticut Sun last played Chicago Sky on June 10th, Tina Charles was held to just eight points and the Sun lost by 78-75 - their only loss of this season.
She had said at that time,
“I was not there for my team, the way my team needs me on the offensive and defensive end, I just need to take it more personal, especially if we want to make it to the playoffs. I have to have the mindset that I want to dominate
every game.”
On Sunday night, she ensured a payback.
Charles scored a season-high 31 points, adding 11 of them in the fourth quarter, and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds as Connecticut beat Chicago 83-68 at Mohegan Sun Arena. With this victory, Connecticut not only squared the season
series 1-1, but also left Sky behind to head the Eastern Conference with a 4-1 record.
Charles was outstanding throughout the game, shooting 13-for-21 from the field in 31 minute of action.
Kara Lawson came off the bench with 13 points, making a pair of 3-pointers off the bench in the first half of the game. She also grabbed seven rebounds for the Sun in almost 27 minutes. Asjha Jones ended with 12 points, four assists,
three rebounds, and two steals for Connecticut, who have won three in a row.
Sylvia Fowles once again led the Sky with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. However, the 25-year-old centre nailed just 8-of-17 from the field.  Epiphanny pinned four three pointers and finished with 18 points, four rebounds
and four steals for Sky. Cathrine Kraayeveld added 13 points, shooting 3-for-9 from three-point range, and clutched four rebounds in the season’s second defeat of Chicago.
Although Connecticut faltered on the foul line, they outperformed Sun from the field and from the long range. Sun shot at 43.3% and 45.5% from the two point and three point range respectively as compared to 39.7% and 29.2% shooting
by Sky. They also outrebounded Sky 38-33 on the boards and caused them to turn over the ball 17 times as compared to their 14.
