Tina Charles scores career high as Connecticut Sun beat Chicago Sky 83-68 – WNBA Recap: Part 2
First Quarter
Connecticut Sun got off to a good start and scored the first four points of the first quarter. Sky responded and scored the next four points to knot the game at 4-4 with 07:35 to go in the first. Kalana Greene and Kara Lawson hit
three-pointers and Tina Charles scored seven of her points in the next four minutes to put the Sun ahead by 17-8.
Cathrine Kraayeveld and Epiphanny Prince pinned 3-pointers to cut Chicago’s deficit to three, 17-14, with 01:18 remaining. They came within one point on the next possession but Lawson’s driving lay-up made it 22-19 for Connecticut,
heading into the second.
Second Quarter
Sun scored six straight points to open the second quarter and took a 28-19 edge. However, Prince responded with a three-pointer and a lay-up with in a span of 25 seconds to make it 28-24.
Connecticut answered immediately and carried a 39-27 lead with 02:52 to go in the half. Sky scored two straight in the passage that followed but Sun raced off to 9-2 run in the final 1:46 to secure a 48-33 lead at the interval.
Third Quarter
Trailing by 15 points, Chicago went on a 10- 5 run early in the third quarter and trimmed the deficit to 10 points, 53-43. Greene hit a pair of free throw at 05:27 mark to put the Sun ahead by 12 points.
Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton’s put back lay-up and a pair of free throw by Fowles further decreased Connecticut’s lead to eight points, 55-47, with 04:16 to go in the third however Sun closed the third stanza on an 8-5 spurt, taking a
62-52 lead into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Tina Charles delivered another stellar performance in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 of her season-high 31 points. Connecticut remained alert on the D and limited the visiting team to 16 points only. Chicago never came within eight
points throughout the remaining period and Sun walked away with 15-point victory.
The Sun and Sky teams meet again on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Allstate Arena.
