Tina Thompson enters history books as Seattle Storm cruise part Chicago Sky – WNBA News
Tina Thompson set a new league record when she became the first player in WNBA history to cross the 7000 points mark, scoring 10 points on the night as the Seattle Storm cruised to a 75-60 victory over the Chicago Sky at the Key
Arena on Tuesday night.
Thompson broke the milestone at the 9:02 mark in the first half through a thirteen foot jumper off an assist by Tanisha Wright.
"I didn't know about it until today. Winning is first and foremost for me. These things are great and it's something I'll probably relish in and enjoy after my career. But for me winning is always first so getting a win definitely
makes it sweeter,” said Thompson.
Ann Wauters scored 16 points and 8 rebounds and Katie Smith added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the victory for Seattle. Epiphanny Prince had a game high 21 points for Chicago, adding 7 rebounds and 4 assists to her nightly
tally.
"She's just a true professional. She comes to work every day and takes care of herself. She's got one of the nicest touches on the basketball that I've ever been around. She knows how to score. She's a good teammate and a proven
winner,” said Seattle Head Coach Brian Agler regarding Thompson.
Seattle took the lead from the first minute of the game, and held on to it throughout the first period. A three pointer by Thompson put Seattle up by 21-11, and she closed the period with yet another three point shot as Seattle
stretched their lead to 26-13.
Ewelina Kobryn then nailed a three pointer early in the second period and put Seattle up by 32-19. Chicago failed to get any momentum going during the second period, going scoreless for almost four minutes during the quarter and
trailing Seattle 28-46 at the halftime break.
Seattle started the third period where they left before the break, scoring the first 8 points of the period to extend their lead to 54-28. Although Chicago got some offensive momentum going in the period, they were unable to stop
Seattle and ended up trailing them 47-66 going into the final period.
Seattle did not score in the final 2:53 of the game, and Prince hit back to back three pointers for Chicago in the final minutes, still Storm were able to pick up a comfortable 75-60 victory.
Seattle shot a remarkable 49 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from the distance. Chicago, in comparison, were only 32.4 percent from the field and 20.7 percent from the distance. Seattle also managed 10 more free throws
at 23, and nailed 18 of those. They had a 42-25 advantage over Chicago in rebounds, and a 20-8 advantage in assists.
Chicago was completely dominated by Seattle on the day, and remain one game behind New York for the fourth and final seed in the Eastern Conference.
