Tine Baun hopes to outshine Chinese stars with support of All England spectators
The Danish female shuttler Tine Baun hopes that All England Open spectators will back her up to outshine Chinese stars in the oldest open of the world.
The Dane is the only lady who has challenged China’s supremacy in the All England Open in last decade by winning the title twice in 2008 and 2010.
She could not defend the title last year and lost the honour owing to her heel injury and now this year despite of suffering another injury, she is hoping that she will defy the greatest nation once again.
Tine Baun said, “I feel that when I play, I play good matches. I’ve been struggling with the right hip, but it’s getting better. And I feel that the spectators get behind me at All-England. This is a very special tournament for me.”
The Danish lady ended last season by putting a decent show at the Hong Kong Open and she is determined to start this season with a boom in Birmingham, which she calls her second home. Tine Baun wants to reclaim her position in the All England Open by using
her valuable past experience and fond memories of the event.
The All England Open has become even more important for 32-year-old Dane as she is expected to quit the game in near future.
Baun said, “I could do one more All-England, but not two.”
However, China’s gang of Wangs stands in her way to glory. The fifth seeds Danish shuttler Baun will have to surpass the World champion Wang Yihan, the All England champion Wang Shixian and Wang Xin who bagged numerous Super Series titles in last season.
She has nailed Wang Shixian in Hong Kong Open last year before the Wang Xin outclassed her in final match of the event.
Tine Baun must be wary of Wang Yihan as 2009 All England Champion is favourite to seal the crown this year. She is expected to challenge Baun in the quarter-finals however the Danish lady stands an equal chance with a decent win over Wang Yihan in the 2010
All England Open finals.
Tine Baun may avoid the danger of Wang Xin if tide of luck takes the expected semi-finalist Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal into finals otherwise the Dane will have to exhibit prime skills to outshine technically and tactically very astute the Wangs of China.
