Tine Baun to stop playing at professional level after 2013 All England Open – Badminton news
Danish fans are destined to miss the delight of watching their best female shuttler Tine Baun playing at international level after the 2013 All England Open as the shuttler revealed her retirement plans yesterday while playing in the Denmark Open, which
is in progress at Odense.
The World Number Six Baun has been dealing impressively with the best shuttlers in the world for almost a decade and earned many major titles proving that she is one of the top players in Women’s Singles category in the present era.
After serving Denmark for more than a decade by playing top class badminton, now she wants to give time to her studies and family considering her growing age that makes it hard for her to compete with the young shuttlers.
However, Baun has been showing a steely determination, always posing threat to the top shuttlers from particularly from China, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and India.
While talking about her retirement, the Danish ace said that it is the right time for her leave the arena with dignity.
She stated, “I am 33 years old and I think the time has come for me to say goodbye to badminton. I have been playing competitive badminton since 25. I’m finding it hard against younger players.”
Baun further added, “I want to have children and I am also going to further my studies. It’s good to leave when one is at the top of the game. I will miss it but I am sure that Denmark will produce more players. Some are young right now but, given time,
they will make it to the top like me.”
Baun has been impressive in all tournaments she participated in as her presence always kept her rivals under pressure as she has the ability to thrash any shuttler in the world and she has been doing so on different occasion.
Nevertheless, the growing age is showing its effects now and it is undeniable and unavoidable phenomenon for players to stop playing in their 30’s especially in Singles category.
Along with Baun another Danish legend in Denmark, Peter Hoeg Gade, will also quit playing professional badminton later this year.
