Tine Baun topples Sayaka Sato in Women’s Singles round-of-16 at the Singapore Open Super Series
Denmark’s ace shuttler, Tine Baun, toppled Japan’s Sayaka Sato, in the Women’s Singles round-of-16 at the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series. The match was held in Singapore City, on Thursday, June 16, 2011.
The 31-year-old Tine delivered a remarkable performance by playing top-quality badminton against Sayaka and clinched the match by winning in straight games in just 34 minutes.
In the opening game, Tine played with confidence against the Japanese who had a shaky game in the start, as she made many errors by placing her strokes on the wrong places. Sayaka was playing a game which was suiting the Danish, who was uncontrollable for
the Japanese in the entire match.
In the first-half, Tine, who is currently the World Number Eight in the Women’s Singles rankings, laid down a superb lead of 11-7. She was playing at the highest level of the game as her shot selection and execution made Sayaka moving around in the court
for getting the bird.
After the break, Sayaka, who is the World Number 19, started to reduce the gap by playing a fast game at the net. However, the Danish controlled proceedings without wasting any time and bagged the first game by consuming only 18 minutes with a good margin
of 21-16.
The second game was quite entertaining for the local crowd as in the starting points, both ladies remained toe-to-toe until the end of the first part. The speed of the game was quite high where both shuttlers tried to play an aggressive game to put pressure
on their opponents. However, Tine was successful in creating a three-point gap by reaching 11-8.
After getting back into the court, the Danish worked harder and stretched the gap against a shaky Sayaka, who went completely out of sorts in front of her powerful rival. Tine clinched the second game in just 16 minutes by an impressive margin of 21-14.
The 34-minute two-set fight ended with the score of 21-16 and 21-14.
In the quarter-final, Tine will be up against either Saina Nehwal of India or Shao Chieh Cheng of Chinese Taipei.
