Tinea versicolor.....?!?

Okay I went to the dermatologist a couple days ago and I showed him my skin on my stomach and lower back. I have spots that are a lighter tone than my skin tone. I've had this problem since as I was a little kid like 7 years old but me and my mom always thought it would just go away. Now i'm 16 and it seems to have spread a bit more. I have it on my chest, stomach and lower back. My dermatologist prescribed me a ketoconazole cream to be applied twice daily. I have been doing so but I was wondering if my skin tone will ever be even and if so how long will it take for me to see results?

PS: My dermatologist never said I have Tinea versicolor but I went online and googled the kenoconazole cream he prescribed me for the "skin discoloration" and I came across a site about tinea versicolor. I looked at the photos and automatically realized that is what I have.

  1. My son had this - it appeared when he was in the Marines.  They gave him some kind of medication and it helped.  I also did some research during that time and remember that Selsun blue shampoo was mentioned an over the counter remedy.

BTW - his skin is quite even toned now.
