Ting Wen Quah clinches Women’s 400m freestyle gold medal – Singapore National Swimming Championships
Ting Wen Quah of Swimfast Aquatic Club achieved the gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle category, on the final day of the 2011 Singapore National Swimming Championships.
The 18-year-old Wen Quah proved her dominance in the medium distance freestyle event, as she touched the finishing wall in a time of 4 minutes and 22.13 seconds for the gold medal.
Her timing was almost 11 seconds above the FINA A-Time Qualification Standard of 4 minutes and 11.26 seconds. Similarly, she was almost five seconds slower than the B-Time World Selection criteria of 4 minutes and 17.64 seconds.
She was followed by 16-year-old Ressa Kania Dewi of Indonesia, who was almost three seconds away and touched the finishing wall for the silver medal, by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 25.43 seconds. Kania Dewi defeated her closest competitor, Raina Saumi
G by a considerable distance of 6.35 seconds. Saumi G followed them on the podium for the bronze medal, by clocking in a time of 4 minutes and 31.78 seconds.
Marina Chan of Chinese Swimming Club S'Pore was the fourth fastest swimmer to hit the wall, as she stayed almost one second behind the bronze medallist and produced a time of 4 minutes and 32.67 seconds. Jung Wen Teo of Aquatic Performance Swim Club followed
Chan on the finishing wall as the fifth fastest swimmer of the 400m event. She was only 0.51 seconds away from the fourth fastest swimmer and completed her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 33.18 seconds.
She was followed by Chelsea Fuchs of Swimfast Aquatic, who appeared on the finishing wall as the sixth position holder, by touching the wall in a time of 4 minutes and 35.55 seconds.  Rachel Marjorie Tseng and Bianca Goetz emerged on the finishing wall for
the seventh and eighth positions, by clocking a time of 4:41.50 and 4:42.88 minutes, respectively.
Quah was happy with her gold winning effort and the champion has an aim to continue her thrilling performances at the upcoming swimming championships.
