Tino Martinez hired as hitting coach by Miami Marlins - MLB Update
Miami Marlins’ skipper Mike Redmond starts a journey toward developing his coaching crew for the upcoming season as he hires a former first baseman for New York Yankees, Tino Martinez as hitting coach of his team.
Martinez has strong credentials to act as a reliable hitting coach. He has been playing for the Yankees and knows very well as to how players can develop proper hitting techniques at the Major League level.
Yankees’ General Manager, Brian Cashman has hailed the move stating that he can do justice with the role that he has been assigned by the Marlins.
The Marlins are seeking sharp improvements after they went through one of the worst seasons in their history.
They have fired their manager Ozzie Guillen replacing him with Redmond. Similarly, they are taking several other steps in the offseason trying to streamline the roster and remove flaws in the team.
Their newly appointed manager, Redmond has a huge responsibility on his shoulders. Disgruntled Marlins fans are looking up to him for experiencing a change in their fate.
They are hoping that Redmond helps them fulfil their dreams that they desired last year following the inauguration of the New Marlins ballpark.
Last year when the Marlins added star players on their roster and inducted a new manager, fans had the optimism that they will clinch something substantial during 2012 regular season.
Unfortunately as this did not happen, they were disheartened and demoralised.
Redmond can become a source of their solace.
By utilising the resources available to maximum, he can begin the journey toward success.
As far as Cashman is concerned, Redmond has taken the right decision by putting Martinez in his coaching staff. Cashman is confident that he will turn out to be a healthy addition in the team.
“Tino’s a great guy. he was a tremendous player, obviously he knows hitting,” Cashman said. “His hitting philosophy matches ours, which is why we gravitated towards him as a player. He’s a good man, he’s a world championship player; he’s got a lot to offer.”
Other than hitting, Redmond has several other issues to address in the offseason. He will be looking to respond to them effectively and build up a strong team for the next season.
