Tiny car, what is it?

I've been seeing these really tiny cars all over the place. They appear to hold no more than 2 people and are so small they could fit inside my car. What are they?

The Smart Fortwo.

It came out in 1998 in Europe, a few years ago in Canada.

And it is new in America, even though it is a 10 year old car.

Smart is a company owned by Mercedes Benz.

It uses a 1.0L 3 cylinder Mercedes engine with 71HP.

It is the slowest car in America and gets up to 41mpg highway, which is only 1-3mpg better than the  more reliable, faster, bigger cars like the Honda Civic and Toyota Yaris and Nissan Versa.

The Smart Fotwo is a bad car. Not reliable, expensive to maintain, premium gas. It seats only 2 people and has no real trunk space.

It can reach 90mph and it is a safe car. 4/5 stars in crash tests.

It costs $11,500 with no options. No power windows or seats or locks. no cd player, etc. It goes up to $17,500 with all of the options for the convertible version. This is very expensive for a small car with no power and bad gas mileage for the size and hardly any standard features.
