  1. make the two fractions have the same denomincator. Add. Eliminate the denominator. Solve.

  2. 1/x 1/y

    1/x 1/1

    1/x+1 is the answer

  3. Solve 1/x + 1/y= 1 for y

    First of all, subtract 1/x (using basic algebra laws) from both sides.

    1/y = 1 - 1/X

    Then you can invert each side, using the reciprocals, to move the y to the numerator.

    y = 1/ (1-1/X)

    This is your answer.
