Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote is targeting a series of wins against the likes of Sunderland and Manchester United as he makes his way back into the first team.
The Ivory Coast international picked up a muscular injury in Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur. The player has been sidelined for quite some time, trying to recover and reach full fitness.
Tiote was accompanied by the likes of Ryan Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Tim Krul and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Simpson, who all picked up injuries and missed out on the opening weeks of competitive football.
Newcastle had been without most of its first team regulars, and struggled in the league and other competitions. Manager Alan Pardew will be however pleased with the fact that some of his players are making a return to the side.
Tiote and Coloccini made their return in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the Capital One Cup. Both players were a welcome sight for the manager and the fans alike. Tim Krul’s void has been filled by Steve Harper, but the Dutchman has also recovered
and is expected to play in the Europa League game against Bordeaux.
Tiote spoke about his targets for this season, and insists that Newcastle will soon re-discover the flying form which led to a fifth place finish in the Premier League last season.
The player is targeting Champions League qualification and a series of results as he makes his way back into the first team set-up.
Newcastle have not exactly signed any major player this summer besides http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vurnon-Anita-c36486, but Tiote insists they already have a strong squad.
“In terms of finances and depth of squads, we don’t have the resources of clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786,” said Tiote.
“The better we do on the field as a team will help improve the club on and off the field, and that’ll be great for the fans too. Success doesn’t come overnight, so we must all be patient.”
The player was thrilled when manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew was recently awarded an eight year contract extension with the club and added:
